Sited along the Intracoastal Waterway, this home for a dot-com capitalist is designed to capture views and breezes through its use of a T-shaped plan with a courtyard at the entry, and a courtyard for the pool.
The main entry, through a large front door with glass sidelights is aligned with a dock in the distance, providing a picturesque setting through a grand entrance hall with a classic low-slung stair rising to the second level. Formal living areas flank the entrance, with informal areas to the south, accessed by a grand hall running the length of the southern wing. The screened porch is located adjacent to the living and kitchen areas, and provides a bug-proof enclosure for dining and resting that relates to the busiest informal family spaces in the house. The “band-shell” structure caps the end of the southern wing of the house, and acts as the outdoor focal point of the pool-courtyard where fires rage in the massive outdoor fireplace and bands jam on the covered deck. This space allows for a place to sit and enjoy sea breezes, shade, and views of the water and private pool-courtyard.
The side-entry between the garage and main house contains offices, craft-room, and pool-bath, and acts as a “short-cut” to the private pool courtyard from the entrance courtyard. A classic two-story covered porch across the water-side of the house provides a shady and breezy outdoor place to watch the boats go by.
