Stokley Spec House

This modest 1,900 s.f. dwelling is to be located in a mature coastal community just 200 yards from the Intracoastal Waterway near Wrightsville Beach, NC. A simple salt-box form with a central bearing wall divides the structure in two down the center for purposes of simplifying framing materials and organizing the structure to passively take advantage of the prime solar orientation of the site. The long leg of the saltbox roof is oriented to the south with dormers and deep eaves for maximizing daylighting and shading. The 30 foot wide building efficiently separates sleeping and working functions to the north, and more public spaces to the south. The public spaces are capped on the front and back ends with lofty screened porches in an effort to maximize insect-free natural ventilation so easily achieved with the reliable local sea breezes. Classic coastal material choices of cedar shakes, white painted trim and metal roofs lend themselves to the longevity and marketability of this tidy little coastal North Carolina home.
