The Bluffs Gatehouse

The Bluffs on the Cape Fear is a gated community development located on the high banks of the Cape Fear River just a 30 minute boat-ride from downtown Wilmington, NC. Located at the end of a long, pastoral entrance drive through a tall pine alley, the building appears as a lantern in the woods at night. Deep, bracketed eaves with exposed framing and rafter-tails work hard to shade the highly transparent security structure and protect its furniture-grade carpentry detailing. Though the use of oyster shell stucco on both the walls of the structure and landscape walls, as well as matching the custom-fabricated lanterns’ pitch to the pitch of the roof, a harmonious, integrated design is created emblematic of North Carolina coastal vernacular architecture.
